What You Need to Know About Shade at Coors Field

Coors Field is one of the best views in baseball! Sitting at a mile above sea level, it isn’t just famous for high-scoring games but for some of the most intense sunlight in the Majors.

Denver’s clear skies and elevation means UV exposure feels stronger. Since the park faces North, the sun rises over right field and travels across into left field during afternoon games. That pattern leaves much of the lower bowl exposed for long stretches unless you’re in specific shaded areas or higher rows that fall under structural cover.

How Shade Develops at Coors Field

Lower rows down the first-base line, right field, and outfield sections tend to stay in direct sunshine longer than most. Even when parts of the higher seating become shaded, these areas can remain hot and bright deep into afternoon games.

In early innings of daytime starts, even seats on both baselines and in parts of the outfield will be bathed in sunlight. There’s little shade until shadows cast from the upper deck and overhang begin crossing toward the third-base side and behind home plate later in the afternoon. Higher rows and club level seating shade noticeably earlier because they are closer to the roofline or under cover.

  • Box Level Sections 138 – 135 Upper Rows: These field level sections on the third-base side in their higher rows are often shaded by shadows from the upper structure earlier than many other lower bowl spots.

  • Club Level Sections 234 – 247 Upper Rows: The club level’s elevation and roof overhang provide early shade and reliable protection from direct sun, making these among the most comfortable day game seats.

  • Upper Reserved Sections 332 – 347: These upper sections benefit from both height and the roof’s structure, often shading long before lower bowl areas and extending comfort through the mid-afternoon.

Evening Games and Shade

Coors Field’s North orientation means evening games are generally more comfortable for shade. As the sun dips toward and behind left field, shadows extend quickly across the seating bowl.

Seats on the third-base side, in the club, and up in the 300s tend to shade earlier and remain shaded for most of the night game, while first-base and right/center field seats still get some lingering sun before sunset.
