What You Need to Know About Shade at Clover Park

Clover Park is the longtime Spring Training home of the New York Mets and the summer hub for the Single-A St. Lucie Mets. Originally opened in 1988, the stadium was designed to evoke a “mini-Shea Stadium” feel with its unique concrete canopy and dual-level seating bowl.

This distinctive roof structure is a major asset for fans, providing significant shade coverage across a large portion of the 7,000+ seats, making it one of the more comfortable venues to visit during a hot March afternoon. The park also features a 360-degree concourse (though restricted in some outfield areas) and the popular Jim Beam Bourbon Bar in left field.

How Shade Actually Works Here

Clover Park is oriented with the batter facing north meaning the sun typically moves from behind the first base grandstand and tracks over the stadium toward left field.

Because of the “clamshell” design of the roof, the shadow begins at the back of the first base side and moves toward the field as the afternoon progresses.

Under the Roof is Best for Shade

For the most reliable protection from the sun, behind home plate is the place to be, as it benefits from both the roof’s shadow and the sun’s trajectory.

• Sections 107 – 113: These seats are tucked deeply under the roof’s footprint, often staying out of the sun for the entire duration of an afternoon game.

• Sections 7 – 13: These field-level sections also get the benefit of the cantilevered roof. Stick to the upper rows for more guaranteed shade coverage.

Afternoon vs. Evening Games

For evening games, which often start around 6:10 PM, the stadium is much cooler, and the sun is low enough that the roof provides near-total coverage for the seating bowl. For guaranteed shade, look to stick under the roof

However, the outfield berm and bar areas may still catch the last bits of the Florida sunset.
