What You Need to Know About Shade at BMO Stadium
Located in Exposition Park, Los Angeles, BMO Stadium is the home of Los Angeles FC (MLS) and Angel City FC (NWSL). Opened in 2018, it is a soccer-specific stadium known for its steep seating which places fans incredibly close to the action.
It also has a “3252” supporters’ section in the North End, which features safe-standing rails and a raucous environment.
How Shade Works at BMO Field
The stadium is oriented North-to-South. As the afternoon progresses and the sun starts to set in the west, the East sideline (Sections 109 – 117 and 208 – 217) face the sun for the majority of the day.
For a 1:00 PM kickoff, the sun is high and primarily hitting the North end and East side. As the afternoon continues, the sun moves behind the high canopy of the West stand. This creates a shadow that begins at the west touchline and slowly “creeps” across the pitch toward the east. By 4:00 PM, the entire West side is typically in deep shade.

The West Side is Best for Shade
If you want to ensure a comfortable experience without direct sun in your eyes, the west side is your best tactical choice.
-
Sections 127 – 135: These lower-bowl sections on the west side are largely shaded once the game is underway in the afternoon.
-
The 200-Level Advantage: The upper rows of the west side (225 – 235) are among the most reliably shaded seats in the building due to their proximity to the roof.
-
The South End: Sections 120 – 126 and 220 – 224 will be shaded in the early afternoon. Later into the evening, the lower seats might get some exposure as the sun starts to set in the west.
If you want to enjoy the supporters section on the North side, it can be quite bright and warm during mid-day matches until the sun moves far enough west to be blocked by the stadium’s corner structures.
Late Afternoon and Evening Games
For evening games (7:30 PM starts), the shade situation is excellent for almost everyone, as the sun will have dipped behind the stadium’s western rim or the nearby Los Angeles skyline.
However, for those late afternoon transitions (4:00 PM – 6:00 PM), the west side is a sanctuary of shade while the east side continues to bake.
