What You Need to Know About Shade at M&T Bank Stadium
Located at Camden Yards in downtown Baltimore, Maryland, M&T Bank Stadium is home of the Baltimore Ravens. The stadium is oriented east-to-west (slight northwest to be exact), meaning the sun passes directly overhead before dropping behind the south grandstand, creating a stark contrast between the hot, sun-drenched visitor benches and the shaded home side.

Affectionately known as “The Bank,” the open-air stadium features iconic purple stadium lighting, a natural Bermuda grass playing surface, and giant RavensVision video screens flanking both end zones.
The Ravens Sideline Is Best For Shade
Because of the stadium orientation, you’ll want to prioritize the south sideline (Ravens side) for the best sun coverage. Because the stadium doesn’t have a true “canopy” structure on the roof, stick to the upper rows of the sections to get the overhang from the level above as shade.
- Sections 117 – 136: Sitting in rows 20 and above on the lower level should shield you from sun and rain under the structural overhang, though it cuts off the high sky view.
- Sections 216 – 237: Choosing the home side club level is consistently stated as the best seats for shade by fans and season ticket holders.
- Sections 517 – 537: If you are in the upper concourse, you may get some sun in the early afternoon as there is no true roof structure to protect you. By the start of the 2nd quarter on a 1:00pm start, you should be protected.
Games in the Late Afternoon And Evening
Because the stadium is oriented slightly toward the southeast, the sun begins the afternoon high over the eastern end zone before tracking along the south grandstand wall. This ensures the Ravens sideline becomes the primary shield against the sun as the game progresses.
By the fourth quarter of a 1:00 PM game or the start of a late afternoon kickoff, the massive shadow from the home side completely blankets the field and moves up the visitor stands from the lower rows to the 500-level.
