What You Need to Know About Shade at Toyota Stadium
Located in Frisco, Texas, Toyota Stadium is an intimate, soccer-specific venue that opened in 2005 and serves as the long-standing home of FC Dallas (MLS) and the National Soccer Hall of Fame. The facility features a distinct U-shaped seating bowl with an open north end zone.
To modernize Major League Soccer’s third-oldest venue, a $182 million multi-phase renovation project was launched to drastically enhance the fan experience. This overhaul, expected to be done in 2028, includes adding over 100,000 square feet of extensive canopy structures to cover the seating bowl, upgrading audio-visual tech, and expanding premium club spaces on both sides of the pitch.

The West Side and South Goal Are Best For Shade
The north-to-south orientation of the stadium means the sun tracks behind the west side of the stadium toward the evening. Prioritize the canopy on the south goal and the west sideline covered seating to avoid intense exposure.
- Sections 114 – 119 & 214 – 219: These seats behind goal puts you under the permanent canopy, giving you reliable overhead shelter from the intense Texas sun regardless of when the match kicks off. For the 100-sections, stick to the upper rows as the first rows will still get sun in the early afternoon
-
Sections 101 – 111: Opting for the top rows along the western grandstand lets you utilize the physical structure of the main stadium side to step into natural shadow early in the afternoon.

Late Afternoon And Evening Kickoffs
As an afternoon match progresses into an evening kickoff, the massive shadow from the western main grandstand stretches completely across the pitch. The entire west sideline and both corners of the south end zone fall comfortably into full shade well before sunset. On the opposite side, while the new eastern canopy blocks overhead rays, the setting sun will still project a low, horizontal glare toward the upper rows of the east stands until it completely disappears behind the western premium suites.
