What You Need to Know About Shade at Energizer Park
Located in the Downtown West district of St. Louis, Energizer Park is the home of St. Louis CITY SC. The stadium is oriented on a North-to-South axis (slightly Northeast), which means the sun tracks over the East stands in the morning and drops behind the West grandstand in the afternoon.

Because the stadium is built into the ground with a canopy that sits relatively high, the sun can shine under the roof at a steep angle, leaving the east sideline exposed to intense glare and heat until very late in the day.
The West Sideline is Best for Shade
To avoid having the sun in your eyes for the first half of a summer match, the west side is the essential choice for fans.
- Sections 128 – 141: Stick to the upper rows of these sections, as the seats closer to the pitch still catch the sun until mid-afternoon.
- Sections 227 – 241: These sections enter the shadow of the stadium’s western structure by mid-afternoon, making them the most comfortable seats for standard kickoff times.
- Sections 142 – 150: The front rows on these seats on the South goal line will also catch some sun early on. For guaranteed shade, stick to the upper rows.
- Sections 242 – 251: These upper row seats on the South goal line are covered by the stadium structure.
- Sections 200 – 211: On the East sideline, stick to the upper rows of these sections so you are protected from the low sun angle as the sun sets.
Late afternoon and evening
As the sun continues its westward journey, the shadows cast by the main grandstand steadily march across the pitch toward the opposite side. By 7:00 PM, the west sideline is in deep, cool shade, offering a perfectly clear view of the action without any solar interference.
Meanwhile, the East sideline remains the last area of the park to find relief; even as the sun begins to set, the lower rows on the east side will struggle with glare until the sun fully disappears behind the stadium’s western rim.
