What You Need to Know About Shade at Las Vegas Ballpark
Located in Summerlin, Nevada, Las Vegas Ballpark is the home of the Las Vegas Aviators (AAA affiliate of the Oakland Athletics). Opened in 2019, the stadium is widely considered one of the finest in Minor League Baseball, featuring mesh-seat design seating that is much cooler than traditional plastic seats.
There is also a breezeway concourse that allows air to circulate and its unique outfield pool, which offers a one-of-a-kind viewing experience in the desert heat.
How Shade Actually Works Here
The stadium is oriented with the batter facing Northeast. This positioning means that as the sun begins to set in the West, it moves directly behind third base.
For a typical evening game, the third base side falls into a deep shadow almost immediately. Meanwhile, fans on the first base side are forced to look directly into the setting sun, making for a hot and high-glare experience until the sun completely dips below the stadium wall.
For day games, the sun is more overhead, making the back rows of the 100-level and the Club Level the only reliable places to find cover.

The Third Base Side is Best for Shade
To maximize your comfort and avoid the scorching sun, the third base line is your best tactical choice.
-
Sections 109 – 121: These are the most recommended sections as they are underneath the canopy behind home plate and on the third base side.
- Sections 105 – 108: If needed, the upper rows of these sections on the first base side should give you shade for the majority of the afternoon.
-
Club Level Seating: For the ultimate relief, the 200-level provides access to air-conditioned lounges, which is a game-changer when temperatures exceed 100°F.
Late Afternoon and Evening Games
In the late afternoon, the shade line moves rapidly from the third base concourse toward the pitcher’s mound. By 7:00 PM, the third base side and home plate are comfortably cool.
For evening games, the stadium is an oasis; the mesh seating and the massive canopy work together to drop the “felt” temperature significantly, allowing fans to enjoy the game without the desert glare.
